About this unit

A full-body tactile-skin humanoid built in six months.

Gene.01 is Generative Bionics' first humanoid — a fully functional, sensorized prototype the Genoa company says it took from concept to working robot in just six months. Its defining feature is a full-body distributed tactile skin that senses touch, force, proximity, and temperature, letting the robot anticipate people before contact and letting workers teach tasks by demonstrating the force required, not just the motion. It is built on the team's 'Physical AI' — a physics-native approach validated in a July 2026 Nature Machine Intelligence paper on the ergoCub robot — and ships with an open-sourced digital twin on PyPI, conda-forge, and ROS. First shown as a concept at CES 2026 during AMD's keynote and given a functional U.S. debut at AMD Advancing AI in July 2026, Gene.01 is a base platform for task-specific humanoids; its first configuration is a welding robot for Fincantieri shipyards, with commercial deployment targeted for late 2026. Generative Bionics has not published Gene.01's dimensions, payload, runtime, or price; the figures shown are estimates based on the ergoCub research platform it derives from.

Led by CEO Daniele Pucci, it builds industrial humanoids around 'Physical AI' and full-body tactile sensing, and backed by an €70M ($81M) seed round it is pursuing a sovereign European actuation and supply chain with Germany's Synapticon.
