A $29,990 two-armed robot — bring your own AI brain.
Feather is a wheeled, two-armed mobile manipulator sold as an open platform for physical AI — Feather Robotics' bet that the value in robotics will come from the ecosystem built on the hardware, not a locked 'brain.' It pairs two 7-DoF arms (1 m reach) on a torso that raises and lowers 600 mm with a holonomic base that moves in any direction at up to 1.3 m/s, and leaves the intelligence to the customer: buyers choose their own NVIDIA Jetson compute (Nano, Orin AGX, or Thor) and run any robotics AI model — NVIDIA, Skild, Physical Intelligence — against an open Python SDK. At $29,990 (list $32,990) it undercuts rivals such as Unitree's H2 Edu (~$68,000) and AgiBot's G2 (~$135,000) by half to two-thirds. Feather launched out of stealth on September 24, 2026 and is shipping now, having spent roughly a year in the field across manufacturing and food-service customers; it has no legs and no built-in AI model, trading generality for a rugged, affordable body that works today.

Feather Robotics is an East Palo Alto startup founded in 2025 by CEO Hoa Mai (who previously founded Kind Humanoid, acquired by 1X) and Parsa Bakhtiari (a former Tesla Model 3 engineer). Rather than build body and AI 'brain' together like Tesla or Figure, Feather sells only the hardware — a $29,990 wheeled, two-armed mobile manipulator with an open SDK — and lets customers bring their own compute (NVIDIA Jetson) and AI model (NVIDIA, Skild, Physical Intelligence), pitching itself as the 'Android of robotics.' Backed by a $7.6M pre-seed led by Gradient Ventures, it built its first prototype in two months, shipped its first order within nine, and has passed $1M in revenue with units working in manufacturing and food service.
