Xiao Di is BYD's first in-house humanoid robot, first shown as a working prototype in August 2026 at the company's Di Space experience centre in Zhengzhou. On October 9, 2026 BYD effectively unveiled its design through an 'Embodied AI Robot' patent published by China's patent office, showing a sleek black-and-white humanoid with a rounded, screen-less head and multi-jointed torso, arms, and legs — a machine the filing describes as able to walk, maintain balance, and interact for service, educational, and industrial settings (BYD has not confirmed the patent is the final production model). Its first job is front-of-house retail: greeting visitors, explaining EVs, and running demos, and BYD has signaled it will deploy units across its dealer network. The widely reported figures — about 1.61 m, 58.5 kg, 31 degrees of freedom, a roughly 1 kg grip, 360° vision, and real-time translation across six Chinese dialects and six languages — trace to a since-deleted BYD post and remain unconfirmed in an official spec sheet, so treat them as reported rather than final. There is no public price (one report pegs per-unit production cost near $50,000–80,000), and a July 2026 US FCC ruling that bars new Chinese-made humanoids would keep Xiao Di out of the United States.
