About this unit

BYD's first humanoid — a showroom greeter.

Xiao Di is BYD's first humanoid robot, debuting in early August 2026 as a working prototype at the company's Di Space experience centre in Zhengzhou. Its first job is front-of-house retail: greeting visitors, explaining EVs, and running product demonstrations, with BYD talking of two to three units per showroom. BYD frames it as a service robot rather than a factory machine, and leans on its in-house batteries, motors, and power electronics to build at automotive scale. The widely reported figures — about 1.61 m, 58.5 kg, 31 degrees of freedom, a roughly 1 kg grip, 360° vision, and real-time translation across six Chinese dialects and six languages — trace to a since-deleted BYD post and have not been fully confirmed in an official spec sheet, so treat them as reported rather than final. There is no public price (one report pegs per-unit production cost near $50,000–80,000), and a July 2026 US FCC ruling that bars new Chinese-made humanoids would keep Xiao Di out of the United States.

BYD is the world's largest maker of new-energy vehicles and a top battery producer. It entered humanoid robotics through an embodied-intelligence team formed in 2024, betting that its in-house batteries, motors, and power electronics let it build service robots at automotive scale. Its first humanoid, Xiao Di, debuts in 2026 as a showroom greeter.
