UBTECH: Walker S1 lands 500+ orders and starts night shifts at BYD.
Late 2024 — Chinese humanoid pure-play UBTECH reports 500+ industrial Walker S1 orders and begins production deployments at BYD's Shenzhen EV factory.

UBTECH, the earliest Chinese humanoid pure-play and China's most prominent listed humanoid stock, reported it had received more than 500 orders for its industrial Walker S1 platform from major automakers — BYD, NIO, Geely, and others — and had begun putting units into production at BYD's Shenzhen EV factory.
Walker S1's Chinese-automotive beachhead sits in the middle of the industrial humanoid maturity curve: not the deep-integration OEM contracts Figure and Apptronik are pursuing in the West, but not lab demos either. Nightly inspection, sorting, and light assembly, at scale, at a facility with a labor gap.
The order book is the interesting number. Whether or not every one of those 500 units ends up on a production line by 2026, the fact that UBTECH could book them at all — against a competitive field that now includes Tesla, Figure, and every Chinese EV maker with an AI stack — says something about how quickly the buy side is moving.
